NewspaperSantas run for charity.

THE Wimborne Rotary Club Great Santa Fun Run was once more a huge success. It was held at the point-to-point hurdles course at Badbury Rings on Sunday with around 100 adults and children taking part. It was estimated that £5000 plus gift aid will be raised by them and will go to the charity of each participants choice.

 

Before the start there was an organised warmup for all runners and then the event was started by the aid of a klaxon by Jon Cuthill from BBC South's Inside Out programme. Jon also took part by running twice around the two mile course.

 

This family event brought out, parents, children and even dogs in support of many local charities and good causes - Cherry Tree Nursery, PACT, CAB, Naomi house and Help for Heroes, just to name a few.

 

Tim Ridge, chairman of PACT (Parents and Children Together) charity, said: "the Wimborne Rotary Club has provided a great opportunity for a fun day for all our family and at the same time raise money for us and other local charities."

 

Robert McBain, president elect of Wimborne Rotary said: "I would like to thank the Co-operative Society for being our major sponsor to defray the costs, the National Trust and farmer for allowing us to use Badbury Rings."

ONE HUNDRED or so Santa's running through the countryside on a glorious winter's day made for quite a spectacle at Bradbury Rings near Wimborne.

 

Parents, children and even the odd dog donned red suits and white beards for the second Wimborne Rotary Annual Great Santa Fun Run on Sunday - raising an estimated £5000 for their chosen charity.

 

After a group warm up session the klaxon was founded to start the run by Jon Cuthill from BBC South's Inside Out programme.

 

He also took part, completing 4 miles - twice around the point-to-point horse race course at Bradbury Rings.

 

With participants of all ages and abilities. There was also the option of shorter routes on the same course.

 

Each runner was able to raise money for the charity of their choice, and groups that to benefit include Cherry Tree Nursery, which provides sheltered work opportunities for people with mental illness, the Citizens Advice Bureau, Naomi House Children's Hospice, and finally support charity Parents and Children Together (PACT).

 

Tim Ridge, chairman of Dorset PACT, said: "Wimborne Rotary has provided a great opportunity for a fun day, at the same time allowing us to raise money for charities."

Rotarian Arthur Moseley said: "it was a terrific time. Everybody enjoyed it. They all want to do it again next year."

Viewpoint - Mid November 2010 (Item 1)

A Sea of Santa's.

NewspaperIf you go to Badbury Rings on 12 December, you'll be sure of a big surprise.

 

The Wimborne Rotary has organised another exciting family event, the Great Santa Fun Run. Last year, lots of children and adults took part and raised £6000 for their nominated charity.

 

Rotarian Roy Salmon said, "The entry fee is £10 for adults and £6 for children aged 8 to 14." All runners are given a Santa suit, which they can keep after the event. The balance of the entry fee will go to the Naomi House Charity.

 

Runners will be able to select which course they want to walk, jog or run, ranging from 1 mile to 4 miles. Entry forms can be downloaded from www.santawimbornerotary.org.uk

 

At the event there is plenty of free parking, refreshments an organised "warm up" session at 10:40 AM and a celebrity may be there to start to the runners off at 11 AM.

Viewpoint - Mid November 2010 (Item 2)

Fantastic achievement.

NewspaperOver 200 swimmers took part in the annual Wimborne Rotary Swimathon at Canford School Sports Centre.

 

The total pledged on the day was £8942 and this will increase when Gift Aid is added.

 

Wimborne Rotary President, Howard Smith said, "This is a fantastic achievement. I really felt proud in blowing the whistle to set off swimmers. I would also like to thank the Canford School for allowing us to use this wonderful new facility."

 

Over the years, the 9 swimathons have raised £118,000 for a variety of charities.

 

This year the money raised will be split between the following charities, 20% to PACT (Parents and Children Together), 20% to John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation, 20% to Lewis Manning hospice, and the remaining 40% will be distributed to charities selected by the swimming teams.

Stour and Avon Magazine - 12 November 2010OVER 200 swimmers took part in the annual Wimborne Rotary Swimathon, which has moved to the new swimming pool at Canford School Sports Centre.

 

The total amount of money pledged on the day was £8,942 and this will increase when gift aid is added to it. "A fantastic achievement," said Pres Howard Smith. "I really felt proud in blowing the whistle to set off swimmers.

 

I would also like to thank Canford School for allowing us to use this wonderful new facility." In the past. A total of £118,000 has been raised by the 9 Wimborne Rotary Swimathons and all of this has been donated to a wide variety of charities.

 

For Swimathon 2010, up to ship money raised by each team will be distributed 20% Pact (Parents and Children Together), 20% John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation, 20% Lewis Manning Hospice and 40% will be distributed to the charity which each team selects.

The Daily Echo - 3 November 2010THE ninth annual Wimborne Rotary Swimathon saw almost £9,000 pledged for local charities.

 

More than 200 swimmers took part in the event, which was held at the new swimming pool at Canford School Sports Centre on Saturday.

 

Money pledged on the day was £8,942 and is set to increase after Gift Aid is added. 20% of the money will go to Pact (Parents and Children Together), 20% to the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation, 20% to Lewis Manning Hospice and 40% distributed between other charities chosen by the individual teams.

 

Since it began, the Wimborne Rotary Swimathon has raised £118,000 for good causes. President Howard Smith thanked Canford School for learning the facility.   Top of page

Helping you make the most of family life
NewspaperA PARENTING course designed to help make the most of family life begins in Wimborne next month.

 

The course, being run by local charity Parents and Children Together (PACT) is aimed at the parents of 5 to 15-year-olds.

 

It consists of seven sessions, each lasting two hours on Wednesday evenings and begins on 3rd February.
