Santas on the run to support causes
MORE than 70 people took part in the inaugural Great Santa Fun Run at Badbury Rings on Sunday. Organised by the Wimborne Rotary Club, the family event brought out parents and children in support of a variety of charities, including Parents and Children Together (PACT), the Citizens Advice Bureau, Alzheimer's Society, Cancer UK and Naomi House children's Hospice. Sponsorship totalling £5000 was pledged. Before the start there was a warmup organised by UK National Triathlete Michelle Noble, and the starter was Nick King. Tim Ridge, chairman of PACT, said: "The Rotary Club has given us a wonderful opportunity to bring families together and at the same time raise money." Rex Hurdle President of Wimborne Rotary, said: "This has been our 1st Santa Fun Run in Wimborne and it has been very successful. We now plan to hold this as an annual event as it is a way for the general public to enjoy themselves and at the same time raise money for charity. "I would also like to thank the National Trust and farmers for allowing us to use Badbury Rings." Top of page

Course for parents and teenagers begins
A COURSE designed for the parents of teenagers begins in Wimborne next month. The parenting course is being run by local charity Parents and Children Together and consists of 6 sessions, each lasting 2 hours, on Wednesday evenings, beginning on 4 November. Led by Mary Marsh it will consider issues specific to years which are not only recognised as challenging to the teenagers from themselves but can also present issues for parents. Mrs Marsh said: "the course gives parents a chance to meet others who may have similar issues, a chance to stand back, look at their own situations, and use what ideas they think will help make the most of their own families. "Parents who have been on the course have told us that it helps to reduce tension, squabbling and fighting and has created a more relaxed, respectful and friendly atmosphere in their homes." The courses funded by the Rotary Club in Wimborne, which earlier this year save the charity from closure with a donation of £1000. The courses cost £10 per person and places can be booked by calling Joss Ridge on 07831 620415
Parents' support group given a boost
A CHARITY helping to guide parents as they look after children has been saved from collapse by the Rotary Club in Wimborne. Parents in the Wimborne area will now continue to be offered support in parenting thanks to the Wimborne branch of Rotary stepping in to help Parents and Children Together. It was founded 13 years ago by childcare professionals who identified a need for the provision of parenting courses in the Wimborne area. Since then the charity has supported several hundred parents and their families by providing them with courses and confidence boosting workshops. President Stephen Protheroe said: "We are delighted to be able to give this £750 cheque to help kickstart this excellent charity. It is thanks to the people of Wimborne who have supported us in our fundraising efforts." Parents and Children Together is best known for its parenting courses using the nationally accredited Family Caring Trust Programme, which runs for 6 or 7 weeks in local venues during the evenings. It also runs confidence boosting workshops which are one-off sessions designed to give parents an often much needed boost and get them thinking of their needs as well as the demands of their families. Made a pact for survival
A LOCAL charity has been saved from collapse by £1000 in donations from the Wimborne Rotary Club. PACT (Parents and Children Together) was founded 13 years ago by a group of parenting professionals and has since provided parenting courses and confidence boost workshops to several hundred families within the Wimborne area. Traditionally PACT was funded through local government grants and support from the Extended Schools Programme in East Dorset. However, when this source of income was lost, the Wimborne Rotary Club stepped in to the breach and following a presentation by PACT officials Mary Marsh and Joss Ridge, a partnership was struck between the two organisations.
